Mike Esplin, MSN, RN, PMHNP-BC
Mike is a board-certified Family Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner. He holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology from The University of California, San Diego and a Master of Science in Nursing from The University of Texas at Austin. At UCSD he was trained in Motivational Interviewing, a method of interview that helps the client navigate through their ambivalence to change. At UT he cultivated an expertise in the management of psychotropic medications, and an understanding of the application of psychotherapy. It is in the melding of these two skill sets that he helps clients find their path to recovery.
Mike is well traveled, having visited 15 different countries throughout the Americas and Europe. He speaks fluent Spanish, and has sampled various cultures, having been an active participant in many of their communities.
In Austin, Mike has treated pediatric patients for Lifeworks and the Austin Children’s Shelter. With these groups, he helped indigent children and their families, as well as children with troubled backgrounds, with psychiatric care. He also worked as a bedside staff nurse at Dell Children’s Medical Center of Central Texas. These opportunities allowed him to give care to indigent populations, helping make the community of Central Texas healthier and stronger.
